Strawberry shortcake is traditional English dessert made with a biscuit, fruit and served with sweet cream. Today, you’ll see recipes that use cakes which is great tasting as well. This recipe is a no roll biscuit that is tender and flavorful.
Ingredients:
1 lb Fresh Strawberries, quarted and stemmed
5 tbsp Sugar
1 1/2 cup Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
1 cup Heavy Cream
1 recipe Homemade Whipped Cream
Strawberry Jam, optional
Preheat oven or air fryer oven to 375 F. In a medium bowl with lid, add strawberries with 3 tbsp sugar and toss. Cover and refrigerate until needed. Doing this will allow berries to release its natural juices.
In a mixing bowl, add reminder dry ingredients and give a quick stir (Only use 2 tbsp sugar). Slowly add heavy cream and continue to stir until well combined. Using a tablespoon , dollop six mounds of mix on a greased baking sheet and bake for 5- 10 minutes or until golden brown. If you want one larger cake, pour all contents into a baking dish and cook for 10- 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Dessert Assembly:
After shortcakes have cooled, cut and spread both sides with a little of strawberry jam. The jam enhances the flavor but is not necessary for this delicious dessert. Spoon on strawberries and top with whipped cream. Replace top layer and serve.
