Prep Time (Mise en Place): 15 mins
Cook Time: 20- 25 mins
Ingredients:
12 slices French Bread, sliced 1/4″ thick
1/2 small Onion. sliced
6 White Mushrooms, sliced
1 New York Strip or Ribeye Steak
1/4 cup Olive Oil + 1 tbsp Olive Oil for steak
1/4 cup Green Onions, bias cut (angle)
1 recipe Horseradish Mayo
Spices: Black Pepper, to taste
Kosher Salt, to taste
Garlic Powder, to taste
Preheat oven to 350F.
Lightly brush one side of sliced French bread with olive oil then gently season with spices. Place on a baking sheet and bake until bread starts to brown and crisp. Rotate pan to allow for even cooking. This process should take no more than 10/15 minutes. Slices can burn easily so keep an watchful eye. Once done, remove from oven and allow to cool completly.
Using a cast iron pan or saute pan, heat olive oil over a medium heat. Season both sides of steak with spices and place in hot pan. Sear steak on both sides then place in oven until internal temp is 140F- 150F (6-8 mins). Remove pan from oven and place steak on cutting board. Allow steak to rest for 5 minutes. Place onions and mushrooms in the same pan over meduium heat. Season with spices and saute for 3- 5 minutes or until onions are tender. Remove from heat and set aside in a bowl until needed.
Thinly slice steak into long strips. Use a sharpened slicing or carving knife if available. Spread toasted side of crostini with a generous amount horeradish mayo. Add two- three slices of steak then top with onion/ mushroom mixture. Place on serving dish and garnish with green onions. This dish can be served at room temperature.
